{Letter to Lily} 18 Months

August 9, 2011 by Cassie

Yesterday you turned 18 months old. A whole year and a half ago you became a part of our world.

I can’t believe how much you’ve grown. I can’t believe how much you’ve become a part of our lives. I definitely can’t believe how much I love you.

Every day I don’t think you could get any cuter and yet you do. You know so many animal sounds now and seem to be learning a new one every day. I’m running out of sounds to teach you! You are obsessed with saying yes and no (more no than yes) and will answer any question we ask you, even if you don’t know what it means. You dance every day with Makka Pakka & wave good bye to Iggle Piggle and then to Hoot as he flies off for the night watch. You love to play Peek a Boo & can point out everyone when I ask you where they are.

We’ve created little routines that we do almost every day. The first thing we do we can get up is go straight for the fridge. I open the door, you take out your yoghurt and put it on your little table. You open the drawer and I get your spoon for you. I can leave you to eat it by yourself now and you only get a small amount all over you!

I’ll ask you if you need a nappy change and you run to get a nappy and bring it back to me. You even know to go back and grab a liner. Your ability to follow instructions continues to astound me and I can’t wait to see you learn even more.

I love that you say “mumumumum” when you’re upset and that you said “Bye Da!” to Mr Monkey as he left for work the other day. You get so excited when it’s time for a bath and shriek “Baa! Baa!” over and over. You love all of your “boo”‘s (books) and insist that I read them to you over and over again. You know how to put things “back!!” in the place they came from and even know which one is our “car!!” when we’re near it.

You are so good with your cousin and get so excited when you see her, although you should probably stop trying to hug her by squeezing her around the neck. It is so cute to watch you take her for a walk by holding her hand now that she has started to walk, but you must remember that her legs don’t know how to be as long as yours.

I love that you have started to give us hugs now by wrapping your arms around us as wide as you can and then patting us. Of course, at the moment you only do that when we sing “If you’re happy and you know it…” You sometimes give us wonderful kisses but only when you’re in the mood. You blow kisses to Granny & Poppy when we do FaceTime with them in the evening and love to show off to them the new tricks that you learnt that day.

I love seeing how happy you are when we go to Granny & Poppy’s – they have such wonderful toys, including a “Whee!” (a slide) and Granny gives you all the food you want. And then there’s Grandma & Grandad’s – they have that big backyard that’s so fun to play in, cool toys and a big TV and they cook yummy, yummy dinners.

I love the way you cuddle up to me to go to sleep and the way you crawl all over me in the morning to wake me up. I especially love the way you woke us up the other day by singing.

I love you. I love your cuteness. I love your craziness. I even love your stubboness.

The past 18 months have been the best of my life. I can’t wait for the next 18 years.

Love Mummy xoxox
