Today’s step involves setting time aside to pamper yourself. I can handle that!!
I sometimes forget to take time for myself, or I just don’t get the time now that Lily is around. I can’t even go to the toilet or have a shower by myself anymore. Sigh. I guess that’s what you get when you have kids. My time alone now is normally after Lily and Mr Monkey have gone to bed, when I get to read a book for awhile. I sometimes grab a drink and something “naughty” to eat while I’m reading. It’s relaxing but I would sometimes like more. I definitely should spend more time looking after myself and making myself look a bit nicer. Dog knows I need that!!
The pamper mission on the website for this week is to spend time trying a new “look” with makeup. These days I don’t wear much makeup – I used to wear makeup every day for work but now it’s normally just tinted moisturiser and mascara. I only wear my full makeup for things like parties and weddings. And I’m pretty happy with my “look”, for now. It’s basic and simple; fairly natural perhaps with smoky eyes for special occasions. I don’t like to wear bright colours or different lipsticks so there’s not much else I can do. However, when I did the groceries today I did pick up a couple of things and am going to start looking after my feet a bit better – because I mostly wore thongs (flip flops) during summer my feet have become very dry and icky. They definitely need some lovin’. I’m also going to try and set aside some time each week to just spend time by myself, even if it’s just doing the groceries like I did today.
————————————–
Today started off fairly well. Lily woke up when Mr Monkey left for work at around 7.30am, and played around the bed with me. She then came back to bed for a nap at around 9am and I got up at 9.30am. I got dressed and got Lily’s swimmers together. I then sat at the computer and finished our weekly plan and meal plan for the week. I printed it and put it on the fridge and my Mother-in-Law arrived. We woke Lily up, got her dressed and headed over to the swimming pool. My MIL took Lily in today and they both had a great time. After a hot shower to warm Lily up we went to the cafe for lunch. We then headed home and I got to work.

I put on a load of washing with the stuff from our trip away plus Lily’s swimming gear. I then headed in to the bedroom (this week’s zone) and decided to clear out the sides of the bed and the bedside tables. I have been meaning to do this for ages as Lily likes to grab things off them and play with them, normally things that she shouldn’t be touching. Today’s Kelly’s Mission is to gather up things that don’t belong in the bedroom, so I thought this would be a good way to combine both missions. < This photo is actually pretty clean – there is normally a lot more toys and rubbish next to the bed and a lot more mess on the table.

So I grabbed my feather duster, multi-purpose spray and a cloth and got to work. I started by making the bed (yes I forgot to do it this morning! Whoops!) and then started clearing off the bedside table. I sorted piles on the bed of things to go to the bathroom (wipes etc), things to go in the medicine cupboard, rubbish and pens etc. I then dusted and wiped down the table and then put back the lamp, a box of tissues and my book from the library and one of Lily’s books. I then picked up the rubbish off the floor and tidied up the phone chargers and other cords.

I then moved on to the other side of the bed – Mr Monkey’s side. As you can see, Lily’s made a bit more of mess on this side. So I did the same again, sorted piles from the table, mostly rubbish and coins. I then dusted and wiped it all. The lamp went back, some of Mr Monkey’s stuff and Lily’s books and toys. I then picked up all of the cards and toys off the floor and got rid of them. Once that was done I started putting away the piles off the bed, taking things to the bathroom, next to the computer and under the change table.

It made quite a difference to the room as a whole. Should be nice and relaxing to go in there tonight. While I was doing all of this my MIL was looking after Lily downstairs and I could hear her babbling and laughing. So cute. She learnt over the weekend how to say bubba and keeps repeating it, over and over and over. I got to relax for a minute and read Lily a story before heading out the door to go to the local hospital to donate blood. All was going well until it came time to actually donate blood. It just wouldn’t flow! No idea why, perhaps I didn’t have enough fluids this morning? So disappointing as I still can’t donate again for another 6 weeks. At least I tried, I suppose.
I then headed to the local supermarket to get a few groceries. I must say that I am pretty happy that the majority of it was fresh fruit and vegetables! Still, so expensive! I also ran a few other errands before heading home. Lily had been great for her Grandma but was happy to see me home. I put the shopping away and then said goodbye and thank you to my MIL. I folded and put away the clean nappies then started to hang up the wet washing. Lily started to get very grumpy and actually started to try and climb my legs to get in to my arms so I had to stop and pick her up. I took her downstairs and she watched her tv shows and played with her toys for awhile as I did things on the laptop. Mr Monkey was quite late coming home from work – he opened his bistro today. Yay!! I had managed to get the meatloaf on to start cooking only a few minutes before he walked in the door and Lily ended falling asleep only a little while later. So unfortunately, she missed out on dinner as she hasn’t woken up since. I must make sure to feed her if there is a chance we may have a late dinner!!
I haven’t yet hung the rest of the washing up but am going to do that now before getting my clothes out for tomorrow and going to bed. I should have at least half an hour to read – I have 1 1/2 books to read before they are due back at the library next week! Tomorrow, I am meeting my parents and brother to go to lunch at Mr Monkey’s new bistro. Should be a fun day but I don’t expect to get much done at home.

Woohoo, you’re almost there! Have fun those last days
Thanks Maaike
