Thanks FlyLady, but you know what? I don’t think you should be at the moment. While I have definitely made a difference to my life and my house, and some of the habits have stuck, I think the last few days have really gone downhill. I was worried about what would happen when something came along to change the routine: in this case the weekend away. And I was right, I didn’t jump straight back in when I came home. Even though I really wanted to.

I just cant seem to get motivated. I procrastinated all day today. I had a sink full of dishes to wash but I spent all day doing mindless, unimportant things in order to avoid it. Even when I did get around to doing it I only washed the glasses & cutlery then walked away again. Hours later I came back and did the plates & bowls but still left the pots & pans. I felt vague and foggy and just sort of floated around the house.

Thankfully the afternoon was a little better. Lily had a 2 1/2hr nap (unheard of!) over lunchtime, so when she woke up we had a late lunch of pasta and peas, Lily’s favourite. Lily then carried the feather duster in to the bedroom for me while I grabbed a cloth & the window cleaner. I dusted around the furniture, light and windows then gave the feather duster to Lily while I cleaned the mirror. Of course, she then tried to dust the mirror, smearing dust all over it. Oh well. I then gave the wardrobe doors a quick wipe down then got to work on the balcony door windows. There was a few fingerprints on the inside and a lot of dirt and grit on the outside – we live on a main road. I didn’t do a very good job, especially as Lily got very excited as soon as the doors were open & tried to run on to the balcony. Plus, I couldn’t find any newspaper so just used a chux which just smeared everywhere. But oh well, it feels better for me. Lily & I had a play on the bed and then we headed downstairs where I did a quick room rescue by chucking out all of the rubbish that had collected around the room. Lily’s toys are still everywhere but the room feels a little cleaner.
Mr Monkey got home and I forced myself to go upstairs and make dinner; chicken risotto, Lily’s second favourite. While I was waiting for it to cook I washed the rest of the dishes. I asked Mr Monkey to wash the dishes while I had a shower with Lily but he didn’t so I’ll have to wash them tomorrow.

So what have I learnt from the FlyLady BabySteps?
• I can be the sort of person who makes the bed every morning and gets her clothes out in the evening.
• even though I hate doing dishes I feel much better when I wash them more often so there is only a small amount to do.
• I am happier when I have a routine.
• I need to work harder to jump back in when things get away from me, instead of getting overwhelmed.
• I really enjoyed writing this blog.
I’m not sure where I want this blog to go now. I only started it with the intention of documenting the BabySteps but now I don’t want to finish it. I am going to try to update it with regular postings on how I’m going and other musings on my “organised” life. Let’s see how I go!
