  1. {Recipe} – Baby Leek, Ricotta and Lemon Tart

    November 05, 2011,022

Another recipe from my week of “gourmet” meals. This recipe was also from the Gourmet Traveller Magazine’s Annual Cookbook 2012.

I love a good quiche and so thought this sounded nice. I got most of the ingredients from the farmers market; there was no baby leeks so I got the smallest leeks they had.

It was my first time working with fillo pastry and I seemed to have forgotten everything I had heard about how hard it is to work with! I certainly remembered everything I had heard once I started working with it. I think I’ll stick with shortcrust or puff from now on.

It took longer to cook than what the recipe said. I’m not sure if this was because of my oven or perhaps it was actually cooked and I didn’t realise.

However, the end result was yummy! It’s very creamy and tart, the leek gives a nice flavour and the lemon gives a little zing. I wouldn’t mind trying it with a different type of pastry next time.

So here’s the plan for this week. I’m getting this up a bit late this week so Monday is all but over. We had Lily’s swimming lesson this morning and then after lunch at the cafe we came home and got some housework done. I was going to go for a run but ended up having a nap! We made Vietnamese Beef Pho the other night so we had the leftovers tonight.

Tomorrow is Melbourne Cup day and we are heading to Mr Monkey’s work for a late lunch just before the race. My parents are picking me up and Lily and I will be heading down to their house afterwards to stay the night.

Wednesday my Mum will be bringing me home and we will be going to the Farmers Markets for something different. I’m a bit sick of the quality of vegetables at our supermarket and miss the freshness of the market. Mr Monkey got the Gourmet Traveller Magazine’s Annual Cookbook for 2011 the other day so I’ve chosen a few recipes out of that for this week. Wednesday is a yummy Ham, Fontina and Rosemary Risotto (or a similar cheese).

Thursday I’m hoping to take Lily to the Magic Yellow Bus in the morning and then buy the other groceries in the afternoon. Another recipe from the GT Magazine – Poached Trout with Fennel & Lime Beurre Blanc. Sounds super, super yummy and I’m really excited to try it.

Friday will be a quiet day at home and Mr Monkey should be home for dinner. I went through a few issues of The Healthy Food Guide magazine and found a simple recipe for Avocado and Chicken Pasta in the December 2010 issue. Sounds simple but delicious and I *love* avocado!

Another recipe from the GT Magazine for Saturday night – Baby Leek, Ricotta and Lemon Tart. It’s basically a quiche but sounds a little bit more fancy. Should be great!

Sunday should be one of Mr Monkey’s days off and I’ve planned a Gado Gado for dinner, another recipe from a Healthy Food Guide Magazine – this time the August 2010 recipe.

So I fairly fancy week for us, food-wise!

    Here’s the meal plan:

    Monday – Leftovers
    Tuesday – N/A
Wednesday -  Ham, Fontina & Rosemary Risotto
Thursday -  Poached Trout with Fennel & Lime Beurre Blanc
Friday – Avocado & Chicken Pasta
Saturday -  Baby Leek, Ricotta and Lemon Tart
    Sunday -  Gado Gado
